tonight i videotaped a play for the TO at the fens in boston. for those who don't know boston, the fens is a major gay male cruising spot. the play was put on by a community health center, and gave out free condoms, food, water, coffee, bug spray, etc.

at the end of the night we were cleaning up when i noticed a guy standing close by, not saying anything, just watching. i said hi to him and asked if he wanted any crackers and he smiled and said no. i noticed that he kept watching me as i put away my gear. suddenly he stepped forward and told me his name was ryan. he asked about the play, he said that he was very sad and confused right now, because he had just broken up with his boyfriend and he was going to LA next week to meet his ex boyfriend's dad. the ex's dad is a bodyguard in LA. i guess they were supposed to meet last summer while the two were still dating but he went to vegas instead. anyways...the guy said that he really wanted to go out to LA because he wanted to see what it was like in case he wants to move there after school. however he will have to hang out with the ex and his dad all week.

it just so happens that i used to live in LA. I told him to:
a.) rent a car at the rent a wreck
b.) go to santa monica

i didn't know what else to say. his eyes were so sad. he followed me and the cast out of the fens and then we talked for a bit on the main path. it was 3am. i told him to come to the drag shows, come out and see us all..

he said thanks for all your advice, i have such an awful memory...and then he vanished into the reeds.

he looked so sad. 3am by himself at the cruising spot.

i hope it all works out ok for him.
